We are the Gifted Advisory Committee (GAC), and we're also parents of gifted students at Northern. Our mandate is to inform, engage, educate and support gifted students and their parents. We run a variety of meetings and events throughout the year, and we advocate within and beyond the school on topics that are relevant to gifted students and their education, development and well-being. We hold meetings roughly once a month in the evenings in the school library (virtually in 20-21).
GAC is where you can:
The gifted program is a vital part of your student's education, and contributes substantially and positively to not only their intellectual and academic development, but also to their emotional and social development and well-being. Staying informed through GAC is the best way to ensure that this great program remains strong and available to educate and support your children.
There are many opportunities to participate. Please come to meetings when you can, stay engaged with email, and volunteer if and when you're available.
GAC meetings are a great chance to connect with other parents of gifted kids, hear updates from the Gifted Office staff, provide input and learn about ways to get involved. The committee runs a variety of events throughout the year to support students, parents and staff. If you are interested in being involved but can't make meetings, please email us.
Visit our Special Education Resources page. Or find information by Googling specific topics. There are many many books about gifted children, adolescents, adults and education as well as the many issues around giftedness (twice exceptional, multi-exceptional, underachieving, ASD, ADD/ADHD, talented and gifted, misdiagnosis, social-emotional issues, etc.).
If you (or others you know) are interested in being included in future communication from GAC, please email us your email address with permission to include you on our email list. Feel free to send us email addresses for both parents, and pass on this message to other parents who may be interested. We can be reached at: nsscouncil@gmail.com
