What we Fund

School Council does not fundraise in the traditional sense - instead we ask families for a donation once a year to help fund all of our activities. Learn more about our one time Donation request format. We use the money collected at the beginning of the year to budget for what we can accomplish. The Budget Committee proposes the budget based on historical requests, results of school surveys, and funding requests from students, staff and committees.

We encourage you to peruse below to see the many very worthy causes we support and understand that the bulk of the money goes directly back to students of all grades.  We categorize our spending into four "buckets":

Student Enrichment

Picture

~58% of the budget.

This includes support for school-based organizations that benefit many students (i.e. Buddies, SmartRisk, WellNSS, NEMO, GAA/BAA, Co-Op, etc.) as well as support for school-based extra-curriculars that benefit many students such as arts (Art/Drama/Music productions), Athletics (teams and intramurals), and Clubs (funding for new clubs, additional support for existing clubs).  We also benefit students with needs (post-secondary application grants, Breakfast Club, subsidies for prom or grad) and there is a limited amount of funding for individuals or groups of students who pursue non-school related merit based projects or activities.

Parent Engagement

Picture
~24% of the budget.

This includes workshops, presentations and information events to help parents learn about things like AP classes, Scholarships, Enrichment opportunities, Procrastination, Executive Functioning, Social Media Skills, helping kids advocate for themselves, and supporting parents of students with special needs (gifted/LD/DHH).  These funds also cover much smaller items such as volunteer supplies, name tags, babysitting, translating, classroom rental, police check subsidies and the minimal cost of this website.

Teacher Engagement

Picture
~9% of the budget.

This includes teacher "lunch and learns" as well as our annual teacher thank you activities.

Environment Enrichment

Picture
~9% of the budget.

This includes purchase of allowable additional classroom equipment, allowable improvements to the building (School Council is very limited in what it can do to the physical plant), and a subscription to facilitate ongoing surveys of parents/teachers/students to get input for what activities School Council should focus on.
